En 2016, une amie ougandaise m'a fait découvrir ce qui ressemble à un Hip Hop ancestral, créé par les Bakigas, peuple originaire de son pays. L'énergie véhiculée par cette musique et la danse qui l'accompagne m'ont immédiatement inspiré et conduit dans la foulée à la création d'un morceau par le compositeur Kalbas Mas (@kalbasmas), rythmiquement basé sur la musique des Bakigas.

Le morceau créé est resté sur un disque dur en attente de texte pendant deux années, bien qu'il ait très tôt inspiré un refrain. L'inspiration pour les couplets est venue après un séjour dans la ville de New York en 2018, et plus précisément après avoir visité le centre de recherche sur la Culture Noire créé par Arthur Schomburg à Harlem.

L'inspiration est également venue du film Black Panther sorti en 2018, que nous sommes si nombreux à avoir apprécié. Que l'âme de Chadwick BOSEMAN repose en paix.

Je tiens à remercier TiBwa et Ines Khai (@ines.khai) d'avoir su donner vie au refrain, KidKurs (@kidkurs) pour ses spatiales notes de trombone, SL Sound (@sl.sound) et Slas (@slasieye) pour leur patience lors du mix du morceau.

Je suis aujourd'hui très heureux de vous présenter "Live From Gwakannda", le morceau qui a donné son nom au projet du même nom en préparation.

In 2016, I was shown by my Ugandan friend Katasi something that is a kind of ancestral Hip Hop, practiced by the Bakiga tribe from her country. It immediately inspired me and led to the creation of a beat by Kalbas Mas (@kalbasmas), rythmically based on the music the Bakigas create and dance on.

Then the beat stayed for two years on a hard disk drive waiting for lyrics, even though it sparked a chorus in my head since then. Inspiration for the verses came after a stay in New York City in 2018, after visiting Arthur Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem.

Last but not least, inspiration came from Black Panther movie, masterpiece that made so many people vibrate in the year 2018. RIP Chadwick BOSEMAN.
